WideBand Expands Production Capability

     WideBand Corporation recently purchased new manufacturing equipment that will increase the current production capability nearly threefold.

Central to this acquisition are two assembly robots (pick and place machines) that automatically place electronic parts on a computer circuit board. These machines have the combined capacity of placing approximately 20,000 parts per hour, at top speed.

The head of the machines have 3 spindles, which each pick up parts simultaneously (3 feeders at once) and then place them consecutively on the circuit board. Parts are stored in a drawer on each machine. The machine opens the drawer, takes the part it needs from the trays, looks at each part with its digital vision (vision centering and recognition) and then places it correctly on the board. If even one pin on the part is even slightly bent, the vision detects it and the machine sets that “defective” part aside.

In addition to the pick and place machines, the Company has acquired a new solder paste printer (screen printer) that prints the solder on the board where the parts will be placed. Once the solder paste printer prints solder on the board, it holds it until the conveyor is clear, then it automatically feeds it into the pick and place machine.

The new WideBand production equipment is expected to be online this summer.
